Bangalore team wins the JK Tyre Xtreme 4Play trophy

BODA bag two spots on the podium at the 2017 JK Tyre Xtreme 4Play challenge in Chandigarh

JK Tyre organised an off-road carnival, Xtreme 4Play, at Kikar lodge – an 1800-acre private forest reserve at the foothills of Shivalik Mountains in Chandigarh, in Punjab. Twenty teams participated in the event. These included four teams from Chandigarh led by RFC India winners Gurmeet Virdi and Kirpal Tung, six teams from Bangalore, led by Siddharth Santosh and Lokesh Shivaraja, winners of the 2016 JK Orange 4×4 Fury in Dambuk, four teams from Kerala, two teams from Arunachal Pradesh and one team each from Delhi and Haryana.

The event was divided into two categories,

  • Xtreme 4Play, where professionals competed against each other for the JK Tyre off-road trophy and
  • 4x4Play, an off-road arena where amateurs could drive their SUVs and dabble their hand at off-roading.

The first challenge was the night stage, where participants had to drive up the side of the hill and come down the other side. The first few competitors (unlucky ones) followed the wrong lines and had to winch to get to the top. While some finished without winching, some competitors toppled on the first day itself.

The second day saw the participants tackle four challenges which included water fording, traversing through ditches and climbing up steep and slippery inclines. On the third day, a huge crowd had gathered to watch as off-road enthusiasts tackled the final two challenges of the JK Xtreme 4Play. Local favourites Gurmeet Virdi and Kabir Warianch put up a brilliant fight, but the engine of their car seized and they could not compete further in the competition.

The Bangalore Off-road Development Association (BODA) teams of Siddharth Santosh with co-driver Privthiraj A C, and Lokesh Shivaraja with co-driver Rohith K R dominated the off-road points table from day one and held their position at the top, bagging a total of 455 points. Gerrari boys Tejinder Singh with co-driver Harpreet Singh, and Gurusahib Singh with co-driver Jai Singh finished a close 5 points behind BODA in second place. Vijay Kumar with co-driver Pradeep Kumar and Prashanth Venkappa with co-driver Pradeep Gowda finished third with a total of 420 points.
